Brescia & Lake Iseo
The Lombard city of Brescia is located around 30 kilometres from south-western Lake Garda and is well worth a visit thanks to its numerous artistic treasures. The city's cultural monuments bear almost complete witness to the past 2000 years. In the city centre there are beautiful squares to see, such as Piazza della Vittoria, Piazza della Loggia and Piazza Paolo VI. Around these squares there are interesting shops for shopping.

1. Sights
Perhaps the most important sight in Brescia is located on the eastern outskirts of the city: the San Salvatore - Santa Giulia building complex. This former monastery comprises a basilica, cloisters and the Santa Giulia Museum, where Roman bronze statues and medieval frescoes are on display.

Brescia Castle is located on the Cidneo hill and is considered by many Brescians to be the symbol of the city. It is easily accessible on foot from the city centre.
Once at the top, you can enjoy the view from the castle walls. The castle is also the venue for numerous events and in the weapons museum you can see one of the most extensive collections of weapons and old armour in Europe.
Just outside Brescia is the Mille Miglia automobile museum, which is well worth a visit

2. Lake Iseo & Val Camonica
Not far from Brescia is Lake Iseo, bordering the Franciacorta wine-growing region. Lake Iseo is bordered to the north by the Val Camonica, with the thermal baths at Boario Terme and the picturesque village of Bienno.
The largest Italian lake island, Monte Isola, is located in Lake Iseo. There are no cars on the island of Monte Isola; minibuses take tourists and locals from place to place. The island has a circumference of 9 kilometres and the Santuario della Madonna della Ceriola is located on the 400-metre-high mountain dome. The quickest way to get to the island is by boat, from Sulzano to Peschiera Maraglio (15 minutes).
The most beautiful places on the lake are Iseo on the south-eastern shore and Lóvere on the northern shore, as well as the small holiday resorts of Sarnico, Predore, Clusane, Riva di Solto and Pisogne with their original town centres with narrow streets and beautiful lakeside promenades, typical Italian life and nice restaurants.
3. Wine region Franciacorta
The Franciacorta wine-growing region is located to the south of Lake Iseo. It is the largest wine-growing region in Lombardy and is particularly well-known for sparkling wines such as Satén, Millesimato Brut, under the prestigious Franciacorta DOCG brand name.
Sun-drenched hills covered in vineyards, olive groves, natural parks, picturesque rivers, medieval castles, 16th century palaces, 18th and 19th century aristocratic villas - all this characterises Franciacorta, which stretches from Lake Iseo almost as far as Brescia. To get to know the charm of Franciacorta in all its many facets, it is advisable to wander around the Lake Iseo area, let yourself be captivated by the idyllic charm of the old villages and the hilly landscape, and of course stop off at the wineries to taste the wines.
