1. Campo dei Fiori

Campo dei Fiori is a square in central Rome, near Piazza Navona. In the middle of the square stands a statue of the philosopher Giordano Bruno, erected in 1889, who was burned as a heretic on February 17, 1600. Campo dei Fiori literally means field of flowers, a name that dates back to the Middle Ages when the area was still a flower meadow. Due to the daily market with flowers, fruit, herbs and vegetables, the square is very busy and colorful in the morning. In the evenings, tourists in particular enjoy the special atmosphere on the square with a glass of wine.

The Palazzo Farnese is the most imposing Italian palace of the 16th century. Located in Piazza Farnese (just behind Campo dei Fiori square, it now houses the French Embassy. Alessandro Farnese commissioned the construction of the palazzo in 1514 when he was elected Pope. The palace was built by Antonio da Sangallo begun and continued by Michelangelo and then finished by Giacomo della Porta The palace can only be visited inside on special occasions.

Basilica of San Giovanni Battista dei Fiorentini - Located at the end of Via Giulia when walking towards the Vatican from Campo dei Fiori square. It is the parish church and national church of the Florentines. It was built over more than two centuries and, in addition to important art treasures, contains the tombs of Francesco Borromini and Carlo Maderno. Tuscan artists decorate the interior.

2. Palazzo Spada & Baracco museum

Palazzo Spada - The Palazzo Spada (16th century) is one of the great city palaces in Rome, it is located in Piazza Capo di Ferro, very close to Piazza Campo dei Fiori. The Renaissance building subsequently came into the possession of Bernardino Spada, whose name it still bears today, and who had Francesco Borromini carry out restoration work on the facades. 3. Ebreo district & Portico d'Ottavia

Fontana delle Tartarughe - Walking towards the Hebrew Quarter from Campo dei Fiori square, you will come across the charming Fontana delle Tartarughe (Turtle Fountain). The Mattei family had this fountain built in the 16th century to embellish Piazza Mattei. Giacomo della Porta designed the fountain, which owes its charm to Landini's four slender bronze youths putting their foot on the head of a dolphin. Only later did an unknown sculptor add the turtles, thus rounding off the composition.

The still preserved Portico di Ottavio, built in honor of Augustus' sister, is located in the middle of the Jewish quarter of Rome. If you visit this quarter, you should walk to the Piazza Mattei with its turtle fountain and see the Sinagoga Ashketnazita. In the Jewish quarter, however, it is particularly nice to stroll leisurely through the narrow historic streets and try out old Jewish dishes in one of the delicious restaurants.

4. Trastevere & Gianicolo

5. Palazzo Corsini & Villa Farnesina

Palazzo Corsini and the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Antica- The Palazzo Corsini, built in the 16th century, is located in the Trastevere district. He hosted among many other guests: Bramante, Michelangelo, Erasmus of Rotterdam and Queen Christine of Sweden. Today the palace houses the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Antica (also called: Galleria Corsini), with paintings by Rubens, Van Dyck, Murillo, Caravaggio and Guido Reni. The focus of the collection is Italian painting from the 17th and 18th centuries.

Villa Farnesina - Right next to the Palazzo Corsini is the Villa Farnesina. The simple, harmonious design with the main building and side wings makes the building one of the first real Renaissance villas.

Triumph of Galatea by Raphael. The beautiful nymph Galatea was one of the 50 daughters of the god Nereus. -
Loggia with Cupid and Psyche. Agostino Chigi's mistress, the courtesan Imperia, is said to have posed for the left figure in Raphael's Three Graces. -
Salone delle Prospettive. In Peruzzi's illusionistic frescoes, landscapes and cityscapes spread out behind monumental columns.

6. Santa Maria in Trastevere & Santa Cecilia in Trastevere

Santa Maria in Trastevere - In the center of the Trastevere district is the Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere. Carlo Fontana designed the octagonal fountain from the 17th century. The church "Santa Maria in Trastevere" is probably the first Christian sacred building in Rome (3rd century).The current building from the 12th century owes its fame above all to the mosaics by Pietro Cavallini. The 22 granite columns of the central nave come from the ruins of ancient Roman buildings. Despite some baroque additions in the 18th century, the basilica has retained its medieval character. The facade mosaic and the Cavallini mosaic are worth seeing.
